Biography:
Lianzhou Wang is Chair Professor at the Dept of Chemistry, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). Before joining PolyU in 2025, he was professor and Australian Research Council (ARC) Australian Laureate Fellow in School of Chemical Engineering, Director of Nanomaterials Centre, and Senior Group Leader of Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology, The University of Queensland (UQ), Australia. He received his PhD degree from Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1999. Between 1999 and 2004, he worked at two leading national research institutions (NIMS and AIST) of Japan as a research fellow for five years. Since joining UQ, he has worked as ARC Queen Elizabeth II Fellow (2006), Senior Lecturer (2007), Associate Professor (2010), and Professor and Director of Nanomaterials Centre at School of Chemical Engineering of UQ (2012-25).
Research:
Professor Wang's research focuses on the synthesis and application of functional nanomaterials for use in renewable energy conversion/storage systems including photocatalytsts, rechargeable batteries and low cost solar cells. Prof. Wang has contributed 15 edited books/book chapters, more than 650 journal publications (including top ranking journals such as Science, Nature Energy, Nature Nanotech, Angew. Chem., Nature Commun, Adv. Mater., J. Am Chem. Soc., etc.), 20 patents and delivered over 160 plenary/keynote/invited presentations. He is serving as Editor-in-Chief / Associate Editor / Editorial Board member of 11 international journals including EcoEnergy, Adv. Mater., J. Mater. Sci. Tech., National. Sci Rev., and others. He won some prestigious Fellowships/awards including STA Fellowship of Japan, ARC QEII Fellowship, UQ Research Excellence Award of 2008, Scopus Young Researcher Award of 2011 (Engineering and Technology category), ARC Future Fellowship of 2012, ARC Laureate Fellowship of 2019, Research Excellence Award in Chemical Engineering of the IChemE and RACI, and ARC Industry Laureate Fellowship of 2024.
He is elected fellow of some prestigious Academies, including the Australian Academy of Science (FAA), Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (FTSE), Royal Society of Chemistry, and Academia Europaea (The Academy of Europe, MAE), and has been named in the list of the Clarivate’ Highly Cited Researchers (Top 0.1% highly cited researchers) numerous times.
