About
I am currently serving as an Assistant Professor of English at School of Humanities & Social Sciences, Vanita Vishram Women's University, Surat, India, where I teach B.A. and M.A. courses and also supervise the PG dissertations of students. Prior to this, I have served prestigious institutes such as SV National Institute of Technology, Surat, Pandit Deendayal Energy University, Karnavati University, Gandhinagar, Department of English, Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat. I possess a doctorate in English with a specialisation in Translation Studies and I have also cleared the UGC-NET. I divide my academic goals in two major sections- teaching and research. On one hand, I would want to help my students grow academically and otherwise, inside the classroom and out of it, in whatever capacity that I can.
My other career goal is towards enhancing my subject knowledge through constant research.I have pursued my PhD from Department of English, Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat, and have recently submitted my PhD thesis. To elaborate upon my thesis, I have worked in the very less explored area of translation criticism of Indian literatures in English translation, with a special focus on Gujarati literature in English Translation. My thesis was largely divided into two parts. The first part focuses on critiquing the English translations of the celebrated Gujarati short story writer, Himanshi Shelat, from cultural, linguistic, methodological/ strategic, and comparative aspects. For the second part, I have endeavoured to propose a model for critiquing translations of literary works of Indian languages into English. This study was conceptualised mainly keeping the dearth of a framework of Translation Criticism specific to Gujarati to English Translation and its subsequent impacts on the literary representation of Gujarati literature to a National and Global readership, recognising the status of English as the global lingua-franca. For my post-doctoral research, I would want to work towards improvising the model proposed in my study and expand it further to explore more possibilities that it could offer. Other than that, I also possess an active interest in literary translation. I possess a keen interest towards translating Gujarati literature into English. Apart from that, I would also like to explore the areas of historiography of translation in Gujarati, and work towards preparing a bibliography of translation from and into Gujarati and English as well as other Indian languages. I would also like to explore the areas of Indian writing in English, Indian Critical Theories, and Indian Knowledge Systems for my future research.
