He is an Honorary Board member of AFITA. He has organized two International Conferences and five National Conferences.
He was one of the CO-PIs of the National Agricultural Innovation Project (NAIP), a Consortium project of The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), lead by ICRISAT, with IIT, Mumbai, IIT, Kanpur, IIIT, Trivandrum, NAARM, and G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, as collaborating partners. The title of the project was “Redesigning the farmer extension-agricultural research/education continuum in India with ICT mediated knowledge management”, which won Jury’s award as the Best ICT initiative in Agriculture at the e-India Conference, Hyderabad, and e-World Forum conference in New Delhi. The Agropedia and aqua platforms of the project have played a pivotal role in the dissemination of agricultural knowledge in India.
As Precision Agriculture Chair Professor in King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, he mobilized funds through National competition and successfully implemented two externally funded projects with a total outlay of One million US Dollars; each project of US $ 5, 00,000. The titles of the projects: 1. "Precision fertigation in wheat and alfalfa for sustainable agriculture in Saudi Arabia" and 2. "Water Productivity mapping and assessment of irrigation performance for irrigation water conservation: a study in Al-Kharj region of Saudi Arabia". The project performances were rated as Excellent (28.50/30 for the first project and 30/30 marks for the second project), by The American Association for Advancement of Science (AAAS). He has published several papers in the area of Precision irrigation, fertigation, and water productivity mapping.
Recently, a two-year collaborative project submitted by him as The Principal Investigator to the Department of Science and Technology, under India-Russia collaboration has been recommended for funding. The title of the project is “Development of methods for in-season monitoring of sugarcane crop in Peninsular India using Earth Observations for precision water and nitrogen management”. He has a passion to develop and promote Smart Farming.
