Prof. J. Manjanna is working in the Dept. of Chemistry & also as Director, IQAC, Rani Channamma University (RCU), Belagavi, Karnataka, India. He was also a Director, School of Basic Sciences & Deputy Registrar (more than 3 years). Before joining to RCU in 2013, he was at Kuvempu University as Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Industrial Chemistry & Coordinator for Nanoscience & Technology (M.Tech.) programme since Jan 2010.
He obtained M.Sc. (1995) and Ph.D. (2001) in Chemistry from Kuvempu Univ. He worked in BARC, Mumbai for his Ph.D. degree and then as KS Krishnan Research Associate (2002-2004). Later he moved to Japan as a Postdoctoral researcher (2004-2010) under JSPS and JST fellowship at Hokkaido University (Sapporo), Iwate University (Morioka) and The University of Tokyo (Tokyo).
He teaches aspects of Inorganic & Physical Chemistry to PG students. His research is of multidisciplinary in nature comprising chemical, physical and engineering aspects of inorganic materials. He had worked on material chemistry aspects of water-cooled power plants viz., decontamination of primary heat transfer systems, structural degradation of reactor core materials, high-level waste management etc. Presently, working on nanomaterials for their applications in energy devices, environmental remediation and biomedical applications. He has published over 110 Int. Journal papers (SCI) & 04 patents (one Japanese and 3 Indian). He received ‘Young Scientist’ award twice – by Indian Council of Chemists in 2000 and by VGST/Karnataka in 2012. Recently, he received Dr.P.N. Sharma Memorial Award by Indian Council of Chemists. He has received best paper award (8 times) in National Conferences. As of Sept-2025, his Google Scholar citations are 4700 & h-index: 36. His name appeared among the world’s top 2% scientists from last 4 years, listed by Stanford University.
10 candidates have been awarded Ph.D. degree under his guidance and 6 are working now. He has reviewed number of manuscripts submitted to Int. Journals, evaluated Ph.D. thesis and Research project proposals. He has delivered invited talks on Material Chemistry aspects in many National seminars. He is the Chairman of the Indian Society of Analytical Scientist (ISAS), Belagavi Chapter & Vice-President, ISAS HQ, Mumbai.
