About
Dr. Tapano Kumar Hotta is currently working as a Professor in the School of Mechanical Engineering, VIT Vellore. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Madras in the area of Electronic cooling. His area of research in a broad sense includes; Thermal management of electronic systems, Heat transfer enhancement, Optimization of thermal systems, Climatic mitigation leading to thermal comfort, etc. Dr. Hotta has about 16 years of teaching cum research experience and has around 50 publications to his credit in journals and conferences of international repute. He has guided more than 30 Undergraduates, a dozen Postgraduates, and 2 Doctoral students in their project work. He has received projects from the British Council under the Going Global Partnership Scheme and from the SERB under the TARE scheme. He has handled several projects in VIT Vellore related to Data-center cooling, PCM-based Nano-encapsulation for building sustainability, Battery thermal management, Microfluidics, Machinability enhancement under the cryogenic environment, etc. He is good at both numerical (CFD) and experimental skills and has expertise in setting up the Wind Tunnel facility and Hybrid cooling research facility at VIT Vellore. He has three patents (granted) to his credit and authored three reference books. Dr. Hotta is a member of the editorial board and reviewer for various international journals and conferences related to the field of heat transfer. He has several awards to his credit; Silver Medal for being the topper in M-Tech Thermal Engineering, Research Award conjugative for four years (2020-2023) at VIT Vellore for significant contribution to research, and Best Scientist Award (2021) in Mechanical Engineering from the IMRF foundation. He has also received travel grants from DST, India to attend the international conferences held in Minneapolis (USA), Zurich (Switzerland), and Tokyo (Japan).
