About
Dr. Hari Prakash Veluswamy is currently working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at IIT Roorkee. He received PhD degree from National University of Singapore in 2016 and B.E (Hons) degree in Chemical Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani in 2008. He had worked as an Engineer in Flue gas desulphurization department of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Ranipet, India for three years. He is the recipient of Amar Dye Chem Award for Excellence in Research and Development in Chemical Engineering in 2022 presented by Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE). He received 2023 Energy and Fuels Rising Stars award and 2023 Gas Science and Engineering Emerging Scientist award. He also won the Energy & Fuels 2023 Excellence in Review Award and Scientific High Level Visiting Fellowship (SSHN) 2024 awarded by French Institute in India (IFI). He received the Outstanding Young Faculty award & Institute Research Fellowship from IIT Roorkee in 2025.
He has authored 60 high impact publications in top tier journals of Chemical Engineering and Energy disciplines. He has a h-index of 36 and his papers have about 4890 citations (Google scholar). His review papers on methane and hydrogen storage in clathrate hydrates have won ‘Applied Energy Highly Cited Review Paper Award 2020’ and ‘2015 Applied Energy Award’ respectively. He served as an Early Career Editorial Board member of Gas Science and Engineering (GSE) Journal during 2024-25 and as a reviewer for several top-tier journals. He was the guest editor for special issues in several journals including Energy and Fuels journal, Energies, International Journal of Green Energy and Sustainable Chemistry for Climate Action. His research interests include carbon dioxide capture and sequestration, gas separation, desalination, energy recovery and energy storage employing gas hydrates. He is currently executing sponsored research projects from DST, MoES and NRL.
