About

Professor K. Jaishankar is the Principal Research Fellow at the Faculty of Law, Universiti Malaya, and the Founder / Principal Director and Professor of Criminology & Justice Sciences at the International Institute of Justice and Police Sciences (IIJPS), Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. Before establishing the IIJPS in 2022, he held a series of academic and administrative positions, beginning his career at Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli (2002–2016), where he served as Lecturer, Senior Assistant Professor of Criminology, and Member of the Syndicate (Board of Governors). He subsequently joined Raksha Shakti University (now Rashtriya Raksha University), Ahmedabad (2016–2020), as Full Professor of Criminology, Head of the Department of Criminology, and Dean. He has held the rank of Full Professor since 2016, bringing over twenty-nine years of experience in teaching, research, postgraduate supervision, and academic leadership, including a decade at professorial level.

Widely recognised as the founding father of Cyber Criminology (2007) and Cyber Victimology (2015), Prof. Jaishankar also pioneered the groundbreaking Space Transition Theory of Cyber Crimes (2008). Ranked among the Top 16 Global Influential Criminologists (2010–2020) out of 25, he serves as an Adjunct Faculty Member at the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (Italy) and the University of Peace (Italy), where he teaches modules on the Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Cybercrime, Cybersecurity and International Law. He was awarded the Commonwealth Academic Fellowship (2009–2010), tenable at the University of Leeds. He is also the founder of the South Asian Society of Criminology and Victimology (SASCV, 2009) and the Centre for Cyber Victim Counselling (CCVC, 2009–2025). In 2025, he became the Founding Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Justice and Police Sciences.

His honours include the NASI-SCOPUS Young Scientist Award (2012), appointments as a UN Expert on Victims of Terrorism, and a Fellowship of the African Centre for Cyber Law and Cyber Crime Prevention. With 12 books published by leading presses such as Sage and Routledge, and articles in journals including the British Journal of Criminology, Deviant Behavior, International Criminal Justice Review, and Asian Journal of Criminology, his research expertise spans Criminology, Criminal Justice, Cybercrime, Victimology, Crime and Technology, Crime Mapping, and Policing.
