About
I am Dr. Avinash Kumar Ranjan, recently completed my Ph.D. in Remote Sensing-Mining-Vegetation at the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, India. My doctoral research, titled “Quantifying the Impacts of Mining Activities on Vegetation Ecology using Integrated Remote Sensing Approaches”, focused on assessing mining-induced vegetation changes and ecological restoration using advanced satellite-based methodologies.
Before joining NIT Rourkela, I earned an Integrated M.Tech. in Geoinformatics from the Central University of Jharkhand, Ranchi, India. During my postgraduate studies, I worked on various research projects related to remote sensing applications in agriculture, vegetation dynamics, and climate change analysis. My M.Tech. dissertation focused on using remote sensing data and the AquaCrop model for paddy acreage mapping and yield estimation in Jharkhand, India.
I have been broadly working on several research projects addressing Earth and environmental studies. My expertise lies in utilizing remote sensing and geoinformatics technologies to analyze forestry, agricultural landscapes, and air quality dynamics. Specific areas of interest include mining impacts on vegetation ecology, land cover dynamics, vegetation-human-climate interactions, air quality monitoring, and agricultural remote sensing applications such as yield prediction and phenological studies.
