About
Dr. A.S.Mailappa is a distinguished Soil Scientist and currently serving as Professor and Head of the Department of Natural Resource Management at College of Horticulture and Forestry, Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh, under Central Agricultural University, Imphal, India. He has obtained his M.Sc.(Ag.) in Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry in 2000 from University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS, Bengaluru) under ICAR – Junior Research Fellowship and Ph.D. from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU, Coimbatore) in 2003 under Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) Senior Research Fellowship. He was working as JRF and SRF (Junior & Senior Research Fellow) in various projects including Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) during November, 1998 to March, 2007. He joined as Assistant Professor (Soil Science and Agrl. Chemistry) at College of Agriculture, Lembucherra, Tripura, in August, 2007 and continued in the same capacity & as Associate Professor at College of Horticulture and Forestry, Central Agricultural University (Imphal), Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh. He is best known as the Founder and former PI (Principal Investigator)-CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of RKVY-RAFTAAR Agribusiness Incubation Centre of College of Horticulture and Forestry, Pasighat, and successfully handled 20 externally-funded research / extension projects. He is specialized in Soil Chemistry, Soil Fertility and Soil Microbiology and has published more than 30 research papers in reputed journals, 22 books, 65 book chapters, 20 abstracts, 4 popular articles and more than 30 practical manuals & technical bulletins. He is the recipient of 52 prestigious awards of national and international repute, for his immense contribution to Teaching, Research and Extension activities, including Best Krishi Shikshak Award (Best Academician Award), Scientist Award – 2019 (Dr.B.V.David Foundation), Excellence in Teaching Award (SVWS), Excellence in Research Award (DRASS), Best Scientist Award (SFSN), Excellence in Innovation Award – 2020 (Dr.B.V.David Foundation, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Scientist Award- 2020, Outstanding Teacher Award – 2020 (SBER), International Education Excellence Award in Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry – 2021 (CPACE), Reviewer Excellence Award (ARCC), Distinguished Scientist Award – 2021 (AETDS), Dr. Rattan Lal Award (AEEFWS – 2022), Excellence in Extension Education Award – 2022 (SBER), Entrepreneurship Development and Excellence Award - 2022 (Dr.B.V.David Foundation), Dr.V.P.Tyagi Memorial Award – 2022 (AETDS), Best Oral Presentation Award (ISOR & IIOR - 2023), Eminent Scientist Award – 2024 (AETDS), Dr.M.S.Swaminathan Award (ISASTR), Outstanding Reviewer Award (ARCC), Reviewer Excellence Award (2024), Best Reviewer Award (2025, Exemplary Reviewer Award (2025), Star Reviewer Award (2025), Peer Review Excellence Award (2025), Distinguished Reviewer Award (2025), Esteemed Reviewer Award (2025), Token of Appreciation (ISASTR) and guided more than 40 PG and Ph.D students. His significant achievements are the establishment of RKVY- RAFTAAR Agri Business Innovation Hub for promoting entrepreneurship in Agriculture / Horticulture and allied sectors, development of reclamation and management measures and nutrient management strategies for acid soils of North Eastern Hilly Region of India, detailed investigation on dynamics of potassium in acid soils of Arunachal Pradesh, study of carbon sequestration potential in horti-silvipastural systems and delineation of organic carbon and organic matter content of acid soils of Arunachal Pradesh. As a whole, he has made commendable contribution in Teaching, Research and Extension towards the development of Agriculture and Horticulture in the North Eastern Hilly Region of India.
