About

I am a Materials researcher with interest in mechanical behavior of materials (metals, ceramics and thin films) at small length scales. My research focusses on exploring the micro-scale mechanical deformation and fracture properties of different class of materials (metals & ceramics), and understanding the deformation mechanisms involved under extreme environmental conditions like strain rates (0.001 to 1000 /s) and high temperatures using in situ micromechanical testing techniques. I use different structural (SEM, TEM, EBSD, XRD) and mechanical (nanoindentation, DIC) characterization tools to unravel the mechanical behavior at micrometer length scales to understand the fundamental operative deformation mechanisms and to predict mechanical performance. I am responsible for Zeiss SEM and in situ nanoindentation experiments at Tampere Microscopy Centre. I have expertise in pulsed laser deposition techniques for thin film growth, focused ion beam (FIB) machining to fabricate micro-scale specimens, such as preparing TEM lamellae, micropillars for compression and microcantilevers for fracture and bend tests.
