About

Dr. Navin C. Gupta, a distinguished scientist in the fields of molecular biology and biotechnology, commenced his academic pursuits with a keen interest in agricultural sciences. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Sciences from Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in 2003 and completed his Master’s in Biochemistry at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi, in 2005. Motivated to investigate plant genetics, he earned his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from IARI in 2012, with a focus on molecular mechanisms in plants.

His research predominantly concentrates on host-pathogen interactions, with notable contributions including the development of stress-resistant crops via genetic engineering, the identification of genes involved in host defense and productivity, pioneering CRISPR-Cas genome editing, application of RNA interference for pest management, and the examination of plant biochemical pathways to enhance disease resistance and crop yield. He has been honored with awards such as the Young Scientist Award, Best Researcher Award, Fellowship, and the National Award of Excellence. His expertise has garnered him fellowships, research grants, invitations to international training programs and conferences, as well as roles as a peer reviewer for scientific journals. His specialization in plant genomics and sustainable agriculture fosters international partnerships and mentorship for emerging scientists. His research contributions have been published in prestigious journals, significantly impacting global advancements in plant biotechnology.

Looking to the future, he aspires to develop cutting-edge gene-editing technologies, sustainable agricultural solutions, promote interdisciplinary collaborations incorporating artificial intelligence and computational biology, and influence policies related to genetically modified crops.
