About
Prof. Monalisha Pattnaik is currently serving as the Head of the Department of Statistics and Deputy Director of the Research and Development Cell at Sambalpur University, Odisha, India. She holds a D.Litt. in Supply Chain Management from Sambalpur University and a Ph.D. in Operations Research from Utkal University. She has also completed a Certificate Course in Business Analytics with Management Science Models and Methods from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru. With 19 years of teaching experience, she has taught a wide range of subjects, including Artificial Intelligence, Advanced Operations Research, Financial Time Series Analysis, Modelling, Production and Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Optimization Techniques, Research Methodology, and Advanced Multivariate Analysis. Prof. Pattnaik is an accomplished researcher with more than 140 research papers published in reputed national and international journals, including over 60 indexed in Scopus and Web of Science. She has authored 10 books, edited five books of international repute, and contributed more than 60 book chapters published by internationally recognized publishers such as Cambridge University Press, Wiley, Rivers Publishers, Bentham Science, CRC Press (Taylor & Francis), Apple Academic Press, NIPA, and Springer. Her research interests span Management, Statistics, Operations Research, Artificial Intelligence, Predictive Analytics, and other interdisciplinary areas. She has reviewed more than 200 research articles for prestigious publishers and journals, including Elsevier, Emerald, Taylor & Francis, IEEE Access, Wiley, PLOS One, and Springer, and serves on the editorial boards of reputed international journals. She served as Editor of the Springer Nature volume The Rise of FinTech Ecosystems: Innovating Finance, managing the editorial process from manuscript selection and peer review to final publication. She also served as Editor of Computational Intelligence in Agriculture: Fundamentals to Case Studies, published by NIPA GENX Electronic Resources and Solutions Pvt. Ltd. in 2026. Prof. Pattnaik has been associated with research and development projects undertaken by the Government of India and the Government of Odisha. She is presently associated with a Sambalpur University-funded project on Predictive Analytics. As part of her applied research, she developed daily operational rainfall and runoff forecast bulletins using real-time hydrometeorological data and Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning models. These bulletins were submitted to the Government of Odisha to support flood forecasting and water-resources management, with potential applications in strengthening the decision-support system for “Pre-Flood Prediction Preparedness 2026” in the Lower Mahanadi River Basin. She has made significant contributions to research supervision and mentoring. Five Ph.D. scholars have successfully completed their doctoral degrees under her guidance, while ten scholars are currently pursuing Ph.D. research under her supervision. She actively conducts and participates in training programmes, seminars, workshops, and invited lectures, with a strong commitment to mentoring young researchers and promoting research and innovation among students.
Her research impact is reflected in an h-index of 17 and an i10-index of 34 for the period from 2021 to the present. She was recognized in the AD Scientific Index 2026 among the world's top scientists and as the University's Best Scientist in Computer Science. She is also an inventor and has been granted three patents by the Intellectual Property Office in the United Kingdom and India for innovative designs. Her academic and research excellence has been recognized through several prestigious awards, including the Jyesta Acharya Award 2021–2022; the Distinguished Woman Researcher in Operations Research Award – Operations Research 2024 (Management) by the Venus International Women Awards, Chennai; the Rising Women of India Award and Leading Educationist of India Award (Premium Award) – Certificate of Excellence 2024 from the Friendship Forum, New Delhi; and the Best Paper Award at the International Conference on RAORBA-2024 organized by BVBIMS, Kolkata, and the ORSI Kolkata Chapter. In 2025, she received the Women Researcher Award at the 2nd International Award Ceremony & Conference for Women Researchers in Pondicherry. Most recently, she was honoured with the prestigious AIMS International–Indus Business Academy Outstanding Management Researcher Award 2025, presented by AIMS International and IIM Shillong. Through her multifaceted contributions to teaching, research, academic administration, editorial activities, innovation, and research mentorship, Prof. Monalisha Pattnaik has established herself as a dedicated academic and interdisciplinary researcher in Management, Statistics, Operations Research, and Artificial Intelligence.
