About
Prof Sara Parwin Banu Kamaludeen is an Environmental Microbiologist and Microbial ecologist involved in the remediation of soil and water bodies. She is involved in teaching, research, and farm advisory service services for the past 25 years at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. She has expertise in remediation of toxic Cr(VI) utilizing the biotransformation potential of diverse aerobic and anaerobic microbial communities. She has explored the microbial diversity in chrome contaminated zones and confirmed that microbial manganese oxides trigger reoxidation of Cr in remediated sites, a major challenge. Her main focus of research is Bio/ Phyto and Rhizoremediation of heavy metals and pharmaceuticals from municipal sewage and tannery wastewaters. Currently, she is working on rhizofiltration in vetiver, exudation patterns, metabolites characterisation and role of biochars in wastewater treatment. She has conducted international networking workshops and has participated in several international conferences as an expert.
She is Australian Award Ambassador, Endeavour research fellow and ACIAR John Allwright fellow pursuing PhD and postdoc at The University of Adelaide and CSIRO Land and Water. She is also keen and has developed MoUs with foreign Universities for student research exchange programs. She has research networking with CSIRO Land and Water, Australia, UAdeC Mexico, Queens University, Sheffield Hallam, Cranfield University and other Indian partners. She has published 22 research articles in peer-reviewed journals and 26 books/chapters. She is a technical committee member for CleanUp India 2016, an international conference aimed at Remediation of Contaminated soils and Waters with CRC CARE, Australia and The University of New Castle.
She was Deputy Registrar (Education), ICAR Nodal Officer and Admission Co-ordinator at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and involved in University accreditation process and admissions
