About

Prof. Xavier Savarimuthu SJ, is an eminent scholar and administrator with over two decades of distinguished contributions to Jesuit higher education, excelling in scientific research, pedagogy and consultancy. As former Principal of St. Xavier’s College, Jaipur, Rajasthan, he leveraged his extensive academic and administrative expertise to steer the institution toward excellence.

His leadership roles include Director of St. Joseph’s Research Institute at St. Joseph’s University, Bengaluru, Vice-Principal and Head of Environmental Studies at St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, and holder of the prestigious MacLean Jesuit Chair at Saint Joseph’s University, Philadelphia and Biology Exchange Program Professor at Santa Clara University, California.

Prof. Savarimuthu’s intellectual calibre is evidenced by his global academic engagements, including invited lectures at the University of Oxford, Stockholm, Manila, and the United Nations’ Climate Summits-COP 21, Paris, and COP 23, Bonn. His research, notably as a Fogarty trainee in UC Berkeley’s Arsenic Research Program, has produced extensive publications on arsenic pollution in West Bengal, presented internationally. His influential works include the textbook Fundamentals of Environmental Studies (Cambridge University Press ISBN: 9781316336328, https://doi.org/10.1017/9781316336328), the two edited volumes ‘Go Green for Environmental Sustainability’ (ISBN 9780367517410) and ‘Artificial Intelligence for Multimedia Information Processing’ (CRC Press-Taylor & Francis, ISBN 9781032521473).
