About

Dr. Sandesh M. Gawas is a zoologist specializing in insect taxonomy, biodiversity assessment, and faunal documentation, with particular expertise in Hymenoptera (Vespidae and parasitic wasps). He completed his PhD in Life Sciences (Zoology), focusing on the taxonomy, diversity, and distribution of wasps in the Western Ghats biodiversity hotspot, India.

He has co-discovered and formally described four new species of parasitic wasps and has contributed to national-level faunal documentation through the development of the “Vespidae of India” online database hosted by ICAR–National Bureau of Agricultural Insect Resources (NBAIR), Bengaluru. His research integrates classical morphology-based taxonomy with ecological survey methods to generate robust biodiversity datasets.

Dr. Gawas has published in peer-reviewed international journals including Zootaxa, Systematic Parasitology, and Journal of Natural History. His broader research interests include tropical insect diversity, biodiversity inventories, ecological monitoring, and the interface between taxonomy and conservation biology.
