About

Dr. Sachin Kumar is serving as an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemical Engineering, HBTU, Kanpur since Jul 2025. Prior to that, he served as a Scientist & Head of Division in the Biochemical Conversion Division at the Sardar Swaran Singh National Institute of Bio-Energy, Kapurthala, India for about 16 years. He has also served the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, USA as a Visiting Professor. He is an alumnus of IIT Roorkee, CSIR-IIP Dehradun and HBTU, Kanpur. He has wide research experience in the biochemical conversion of biomass to biofuels including bioethanol, biogas, biohydrogen, lignin valorization, lignocellulosic and algal biorefinery, etc. He has published more than 100 papers in peer reviewed journals, book chapters and papers in conference proceedings and 12 edited books published by publishers of international repute. He has two granted patents one in US and another in India, and 4 filed Indian patents. He has delivered more than 100 invited/plenary lectures and presentations in national and international conferences, workshops, trainings and other skill development programmes. He is a recipient of 2016 ASM-IUSSTF Indo-US Research Professorship and bestowed as Bioenergy-Awards for Cutting Edge Research (B-ACER) Fellow 2016 by DBT and IUSSTF. He was a panel member for Standardization in Biogas Plant MED 04 : P2 of Renewable Energy Sources Sectional Committee of BIS and played a lead role in development of Design, Construction, Installation and Operation of Biogas (Biomethane) Plant  Code of Practice. He has also secured the place among the top 2% researchers in the world based on Scopus reported by Stanford University, USA.
