About
Dr. Arup Dasgupta completed M.Sc. (Physics) and M.Tech. (Materials Science & Engineering) from IIT Kharagpur. He obtained Ph.D. (Engg.) from Jadavpur University while working at the IACS, Kolkata, in 1999 in the field of thin film Si photovoltaics. After his postdoc at the Research Centre Juelich, Germany, he joined the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam, as a Scientific Officer in 2001. He is also a Professor of Physics with the Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), Mumbai. His specialisations include aberration-corrected transmission electron microscopy, electron spectroscopy, SEM, and allied fields, powder metallurgy of ODS steels, thin films, coatings, hardfacing of steels, and thin film silicon photovoltaics. He has over 200 publications in international journals, conference proceedings, and book chapters. He is recipient of the Young Physicist (Indian Physical Society), Young Engineer (Indian National Academy of Engineering), and DAE Excellence in Science and Technology Awards in 1998, 2002, and 2016, respectively, and is Fellow of the Indian Institute of Metals and the Electron Microscopy Society of India. He is a member of several professional bodies, including the SESI, MRSI, IIM, INS, and the EMSI. He is currently heading the Physical Metallurgy Division and the Smart Materials Section at IGCAR.
