Dr. Hitarth B. Bhatt is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Science at Atmiya University, Rajkot, Gujarat, India. He holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology from Saurashtra University, Rajkot. His academic training also includes M.Phil., M.Sc., and B.Sc. degrees in Microbiology from the same university.
Dr. Bhatt’s research focuses on extremophiles and their biotechnological potential, particularly haloalkaliphilic microorganisms inhabiting saline and marine environments. His work broadly covers extremozymes, microbial diversity, enzyme structure–function relationships, protein expression, bacterial taxonomy, and industrially relevant microbial enzymes. His research has contributed to understanding the diversity and enzymatic capabilities of microorganisms from extreme ecosystems such as the saline desert of the Little Rann of Kutch in Gujarat.
He has authored and co-authored several peer-reviewed research articles, review papers, and book chapters in reputed international journals and books, including publications in Frontiers in Microbiology, Frontiers in Marine Science, International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, IJSEM, Annals of Microbiology and Biologia.
He actively contributes to the global scientific community through editorial and peer-review activities. Dr. Bhatt serves as a member of the Editorial Board of Scientific Reports (Springer Nature) and has served as a reviewer for several international journals, including Process Biochemistry, Journal of Basic Microbiology, International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, Frontiers in Microbiology, Microbiological research and Vegetos.
