Tushar Ranjan
Bihar Agricultural University, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay
About
Dr. Tushar Ranjan is working as Assistant Professor-cum-Scientist (PG) at the Department of Molecular Biology & Genetic Engineering, Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour, Bhagalpur. Dr. Ranjan has received “International Travel Support (ITS)”, “Core Research Grant (CRG)”, “Start-up Research Grant (SRG)” and “Early Career Research (ECR)” award in the field of virology from DST-ANRF, New Delhi, Govt. of India, New Delhi, India. He also received Young Scientist Research Award (YSRA) from DAE-BRNS, Mumbai, Govt. of India. He obtained his Ph.D. Degree in Biotechnology (specialization in molecular virology) from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT, Bombay, Mumbai) and M.Sc. (Biotechnology) from TIFR-NCBS, Bangalore in collaboration with University of Mysore, Karnataka. He is presently working on the research projects entitled “Understanding the mechanism of genome packaging and translocation in plant viruses”, “Molecular characterization and engineering RNAi mediated broad-spectrum resistance against plant viruses” and “CRISPR-Cas9 mediated precise genome editing for development of multiple virus resistance in crops and other agronomic traits” funded by DST-SERB and in vitro mutagenesis for Fusarium wilt resistance in banana funded by BARC, Mumbai. His research work is oriented towards the molecular virology with a special emphasis on elucidating the mechanism of replication, genome encapsidation and assembly in plant viruses. His lab employ bioinformatics, molecular genetics, recombinant DNA, biochemical, RNAi and genome editing approaches to unravel these mechanisms. In recognition of his academic and research contributions, Dr. Ranjan was conferred the ICAR-BAU Best Teacher Award (2021) and the Best Scientist Award (2022).
