About
Dr. Murugan is a Professor of Critical Care Medicine and Clinical and Translational Science at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where he also serves as Chief of Critical Care Medicine and the Medical Director of the Adult Medical Surgical ICU at UPMC Magee Womens Hospital. He is the Program Director for Critical Care Nephrology within CRISMA.
Dr. Murugan has practiced academic critical care medicine for 18 years and is licensed in the USA, UK, and India. He has a Master’s Degree in clinical research with a focus on clinical trials from the University of Pittsburgh. A Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine (FCCM) and the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP), United Kingdom, Dr. Murugan has authored more than 160 publications and a textbook.
With an extensive global network in intensive care medicine, Dr. Murugan has dedicated his research career to observational studies and interventional clinical trials focused on preventing and treating acute kidney injury. His research, funded by the National Institutes of Health and industry partners, has been published in leading journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, Kidney International, and Critical Care Medicine. A recipient of funding from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), Dr. Murugan has served the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) for 20 years and is committed to improving the care of critically ill patients and reducing morbidity and mortality.
