About

Scholarship holder at the Pharmacy Department, University of Chieti, Italy. Degree in Pharmacy and PhD cum laude in Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Florence, Italy.
I developed multi-disciplinary expertise in:
1. Rational design and synthesis of small molecules of pharmaceutical interest. My main research topics are the metalloenzymes carbonic anhydrases (CAs) and the discovery of modulators for biomedical purposes. I achieved excellent knowledge of organic chemistry used for the synthesis of a multitude of CA inhibitory scaffolds and molecular hybrids.
2. In silico structure-based drug design and study of the action mechanisms of small molecules toward their biological targets (proteins and nucleic acids). I have documented experience in the use of computational chemistry and molecular graphics for the computationally driven design of bioactive molecules and for deciphering their mechanism of action, adopting a plethora of molecular modeling techniques.
3. In vitro studies for the biological evaluation of the inhibitors/activators activity on CA isoforms, using the Stopped-Flow kinetic technique. I also performed the activity characterization of new CAs and spectrophotometry studies to detect CA-catalyzed reactions.
4. Structural X-ray resolution of non-canonical structures of nucleic acids. My PhD studies are focused on the resolution of G-quadruplex (G4) and Holiday Junction (HJ) structures in complex with small molecules that act as stabilizers.
5. Mass spectrometry analysis of ligand-target complexes. During my period at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, I learned MS techniques for the determination of dissociation constants of G4 in complexes with stabilizer compounds.
