About
Dr. Arindam Chowdhury is an early-career glaciologist currently working as a Researcher in the OP JAK Project: “Natural and Anthropogenic Geohazards” at the Department of Physical Geography and Geoecology (Faculty of Science), Charles University, Czech Republic (Prague). Prior to this, he worked as a Research Associate (Postdoc Fellow) in the Glaciology and Hydrogeology Group (Activity-6A) at the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, Dehradun (Govt. of India). His research focuses on glacier–lake–climate interactions and associated hazards in the high mountain regions. He earned his Ph.D. in Geography from the Department of Geography at North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong (India), in 2023. Dr. Chowdhury's interdisciplinary expertise spans geomorphology, hydrology, climatology, and remote sensing & GIS, with additional interests in hydrogeochemistry and bathymetric studies. Combining extensive fieldwork with numerical modelling, his work aims to understand and quantify the impacts of climate change on Himalayan cryospheric systems. He is a two-time recipient of the Young Geomorphologist Best Paper Award from the Indian Institute of Geomorphologists (IGI), awarded at its annual conferences at the University of Allahabad (2021) and Jawaharlal Nehru University (2023). Currently, he also serves as a Vice President (2024–2026) of the IGI–Young Geomorphologists Forum (IGI-YGF) and was formerly a council member of the Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) from 2019 to 2020. Dr. Chowdhury has published in high-impact international journals, reviewed manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications, and contributed as a member of evaluation committees for both APECS and the International Association of Geomorphologists (IAG). He has presented his work at numerous international conferences and workshops and has engaged in academic collaborations and visits across institutions in the UK, Austria, Indonesia, Malaysia, Germany, Poland, UAE, Portugal, Czech Republic, Turkey, and Nepal.
