About

Dr. Prakash Boominathan is currently Professor and Principal, Sri Ramachandra Faculty of Audiology & Speech Language Pathology, Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (Deemed University), Chennai, India. He also serves as a Senior Consultant Speech Language Pathologist and Audiologist at Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre University Hospital, Porur.

He completed his under-graduation in 1998 and post-graduation in 2000 in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology from the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing, University of Mysore, India. He received his Ph.D. in Speech Language and Hearing Sciences (Specialty area: Vocal dynamics of the singing voice) from Sri Ramachandra University, Chennai in 2008. In the year 2005-06, he had received the prestigious Fulbright Research Fellowship. As part of the fellowship, he visited University of Cincinnati, Ohio, and other voice centers in USA.
He started his career as a tutor in Sri Ramachandra University, Chennai. Since then he has been a consultant in various other speech and hearing centers in Tamil Nadu. He has been instrumental in establishment and development of voice related clinical, academic and research activities at the Department of Speech Language and Hearing Sciences. He is a qualified clinical educator and adjunct faculty at University of Toronto.
His area of clinical focus and research are fluency and voice with emphasis on professional voice care. Prakash Boominathan has been closely involved in the establishment of Voice clinic as a special clinic in Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre, Chennai. This included sensitizing, developing and supporting interdisciplinary teamwork (ENT Surgeons, SLPs & musicians).
He has published numerous scientific papers, a few book chapters and two instructional videos. He has to his credit, over 160 presentations at seminars, training programs and conferences at regional, national and international meetings, and 50 publications in peer reviewed national & international journals. He has conducted four international and nine national workshops on Professional Voice Care. He serves as invited faculty and lead faculty in national workshops on Voice. He serves as a qualified guide for post-graduation and PhD students in the area of voice and fluency.
Prakash Boominathan has been an active member in various professional organizations. He is on the panel of Expert Member on Rehabilitation Council of India (Sub Committee for Speech & Hearing). He served as EC member (2009-2011) and has served as currently Honorary Treasurer (2011-2014) and Chaiman, Committee on Educational standards and Ethics (2014-17), President elect (2023-24) and President (2024-25) of the Indian Speech & Hearing Association (ISHA). He serves as a visiting expert to Rehabilitation Council of India and a member/inspector in peer visit team of NAAC. He is a member of the Academic Council of SRIHER(DU) and Board of Studies (Speech & Hearing) at Sri Ramachandra Deemed University, Mysore University, Calicut University, SRM University and Vinayaka Missions University. He is an examiner/ Member of the Board of Examiners, at University of Mysore, Bangalore University, MAHE Manipal University, Kerala University, Sri Ramachandra University, The TN Dr. MGR Medical University, Kerala Health Sciences University, Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, and Vinayaka Missions University. He also serves as a reviewer/ examiner for PhD thesis at University of Mysore, Manipal University and Osmania University.
He is also a member of the scientific committee of the Madras-India Chapter of the Acoustical Society of America, reviewer of Sri Ramachandra Medical Journal, Journal of All India Institute of Speech & Hearing, and Journal of Indian Speech Language and Hearing Association. He also serves on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Voice, Journal of Laryngology and voice, Journal of Acoustical Society of India and Sri Ramachandra Medical Journal. He serves as an Advisor in the Indian Voice Association.
Internally, he is the Convener - Internal Research Advisory Committee and member of PG Studies Committee, Faculty Credentialing committee, Grievance committee, editorial board member of the Sri Ramachandra News letter, member of Complimentary and Alternative Medicine at Sri Ramachandra University, Chennai.
He has received the Abhilasha memorial best student clinician award (2000), Arti Venkatraman Gold Medal (2001) and PD Manohar Endowment Gold Medal (2001) for academic excellence in both his under graduation and post graduation level from the University of Mysore, India. He has received Manohar Memorial Young Scientist award and Abrol’s Best Paper in Voice award twice (2004 & 2009), a two time winner of the Muktesh award. He received the "Excellence in Teaching Award 2019" from SRIHER.
