About

Dr. Amiya Ranjan Bhowmick is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai, India.

Bhowmick was born on February 12, 1985, in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Presidency College, Kolkata with Honours in Mathematics (Physics and Chemistry minor) in 2006. He completed his Master's in Applied Statistics and Informatics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai (IIT Bombay) in 2008. Prior to joining the Ph.D. program, he worked as a Statistician in the Cytel Statistical Software Services Pvt. Ltd. He joined the Ph.D. program in 2010 in the Agricultural and Ecological Research Unit, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata under the supervision of Dr. Sabyasachi Bhattacharya, associate professor. He received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Calcutta, Kolkata in Applied Mathematics in 2016 having submitted the thesis entitled "An Extended Family of Density Dependent Growth Curve Models and Related Ecological Issues". Soon after submitting his Ph.D. thesis Bhowmick joined as an assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics, Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai.

Bhowmick has been actively carrying out research in the field of Mathematical Biology and Statistics since the starting of his Ph.D. work. His primary research interest includes the application of growth models in biological research, empirical assessment of population dynamics with potential application in ecology and conservation biology. Some specific areas include Growth curve models, Ecological Modelling, the Allee effect, Stochastic Population Dynamics. He has several publications in leading international journals in the broad area of Mathematical Biology. He is also a regular reviewer of some leading international journals. Apart from the research work he actively involves in teaching Mathematics at the undergraduate level and Statistics at the post-graduate level. He is also open to taking up consulting projects both from academic and industrial domains.
