Dr. Md Omar Sarif is currently working as an Assistant Professor at the Center for Peaceful and Sustainable Futures (CEPEAS), The IDEC Institute, Hiroshima University, Japan, since April 2025. Previously, he gained 2 years, 5 months, and 8 days of experience in research, teaching, and administrative work as an Assistant Professor at Lovely Professional University, India. His research focuses on GIS and Remote Sensing Engineering, with particular interests in City Climate Modelling, Land Use and Land Cover (LULC) Mapping and Simulation, Urban Trajectory Modelling, Urban Development Dynamics, Surface Urban Heat Island Phenomena, Carbon Sequestration, Glacier dynamics, and Environmental Vulnerability.
Dr. Sarif earned his Ph.D. in Engineering (GIS & Remote Sensing) in May 2022 from Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology Allahabad, Prayagraj, India. He completed his M.Tech. in Remote Sensing in 2016 from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi, India, and his M.A. in Geography in 2014 from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, India. He obtained his B.A. (Hons.) in Geography in 2012 from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, India.
Dr. Sarif is serving as an Associate Editor for Environmental Informatics and Remote Sensing in 'Frontiers in Environmental Science' journal (https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/environmental-science/sections/environmental-informatics-and-remote-sensing/editors).
