I am Dr. G. China Satyanarayana, an accomplished Atmospheric Scientist with more than 20 years of experience in teaching, research, operational meteorology, and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). I hold M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Meteorology and Oceanography from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. My doctoral research focused on Northeast Monsoon variability and cyclonic storm simulation over the Indian region.
I have worked at several premier national institutions including CRIDA–ICAR, IITM–MoES, NARL–ISRO, and NCMRWF–MoES, where I gained extensive expertise in numerical weather prediction, satellite meteorology, climate modelling, and operational weather forecasting. Currently, I am serving as Associate Professor at the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), South Campus, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
My research interests include heat waves, thunderstorms, cyclones, extreme rainfall, floods, climate change, and AI/ML-based early warning systems. I have significant experience in WRF modelling, INSAT satellite applications, high-resolution weather forecasting, nowcasting, and climate resilience studies. My work mainly focuses on integrating satellite observations, numerical models, and Artificial Intelligence for improving disaster preparedness and impact-based forecasting.
I have published more than 65 SCI-indexed research papers in reputed international journals and contributed to several national-level research and capacity-building programmes. I have also received research grants and project support from SERB, DST, CSIR, ISRO, MoES, ANRF, and APSDMA.
I am an Associate Fellow of the Indian Meteorological Society (IMS) and Andhra Pradesh Akademi of Sciences. I have received several national awards and recognitions for my contributions to atmospheric sciences, climate research, and disaster management. My vision is to strengthen climate resilience and disaster preparedness through advanced forecasting systems, satellite technology, and AI-driven early warning applications.
