About
Dr. Sumit Bera is a postdoctoral researcher at Beijing Institute of Technology, China, where he investigates the electronic transport and magnetic properties of quantum materials, focusing on phase transition phenomena leading to Weyl topological phases in GdₓGe₁₋ₓSbTe single crystals. His research aims to deepen the understanding of quantum phase transitions and their implications for next-generation spintronic and topological devices.
Before joining BIT, Dr. Bera worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Jackson State University (USA), specializing in the synthesis, characterization, and application of advanced nanomaterials. His research there focused on 2D materials such as MoS₂, h-BN, and various topological insulators, with applications in energy storage and electronic devices.
Dr. Bera earned his Ph.D. studying the magnetotransport and thermoelectric properties of topological insulator nanocrystalline materials, including Bi₂Se₃, Bi₂Te₃, and Sb₂Te₃, contributing to advancements in spintronics, quantum computing, and thermoelectric energy conversion.
As a Project Scientist at IIT Madras (India), he gained expertise in chemical vapor deposition (CVD) growth of 2D materials and their integration into electronic and optoelectronic devices. He also led projects on large-area 2D layered quantum materials for memristor applications, collaborating across disciplines and mentoring junior researchers.
Across his academic journey, Dr. Bera has contributed to several cutting-edge projects involving 2D-polymer nanocomposites, ferroelectric and polarization measurements using conducting AFM, and 2D/2D heterostructure fabrication for optoelectronic studies. His research has been widely published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at international conferences.
Dr. Bera remains deeply passionate about advancing the frontiers of nanomaterials and quantum materials through innovative research and interdisciplinary collaboration.
