About

Dr. M. Surendiran is an accomplished teacher, researcher, and administrator with expertise in sustainable materials, nanobiomaterials, analytical chemistry, and materials science. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Periyar University, Salem (Highly Commended), was a Visiting Scientist at NIMS, Japan, and holds M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees in Chemistry from Kongu Nadu Arts & Science College, Coimbatore. He combines strong academic leadership with active research guidance, innovative teaching, and academic development initiatives.
His teaching interests span Physical Chemistry, Nanotechnology, Electrochemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry and Engineering Chemistry, where he is known for a student-centered approach, mentoring UG and PG students in advanced materials research.
As an active researcher, Dr. Surendiran has published 30+ international journal papers (Cumulative IF ≈ 130+), authored books and chapters, and holds multiple patents in biomaterials and eco-friendly coatings. His research focuses on bioceramic coatings for orthopedic and dental implants, nanomaterials for biomedical and environmental applications, and corrosion-resistant coatings. He has successfully completed UGC-funded and seed projects, with another seed project currently in progress. He also contributes to the scientific community as a reviewer for several distinguished journals, including those published by ACS, Elsevier, Springer Nature, and Wiley.
Deeply committed to mentorship, he guides postgraduate students and supervises four Ph.D. scholars, offering research direction and opportunities for innovation in chemistry and multidisciplinary fields. He has presented at numerous national and international conferences, earned multiple Best Paper Awards, and built collaborations with leading groups in France, Romania, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and Malaysia. His technical expertise includes electrochemical methods (CHI 760C), FTIR, XRD, AFM, and advanced coating and surface modification techniques.
His contributions have been recognized through several prestigious awards, including the Research Excellence Award (INSc), Best Faculty Award (IARA), Best Scientist Award (NSF), Young Researcher Award (VDGOOD), and the Managerial Excellence Award from the Institution.
Beyond research, Dr. Surendiran plays a vital role in academic governance, serving as a member of the IQAC Committee at Periyar University. He has successfully coordinated AQAR submissions at the university level, organized workshops and conferences, and earned recognition for his outstanding contributions to teaching, research, and academic leadership.
Dr. Surendiran continues to integrate innovative research into teaching, foster interdisciplinary learning, and mentor students to tackle real-world challenges. His applied and translational research is directed toward sustainable materials and solutions with societal and industrial impact.
