Prof. Q.H. Nagpurwala obtained B.E.(Mech. Engg.) degree from University of Indore in 1968 and M.Tech. Degree in Thermal Turbomachines from IIT(M), Chennai in 1972.
He joined as Scientist B in Propulsion Division of National Aerospace Laboratories, Bangalore in December 1972 and rose to the level of Scientist G (Scientist in Director's Grade).
He was associated with the Axial Compressor Research Group and became the Head of the group in 1992.
He was involved in applied research on axial flow compressors through in-house and sponsored projects.
He was also involved in research projects having international collaboration with Beijing University of Aeronautics & Astronautics, PR China as well as with University of Aachen, Germany.
He was awarded DAAD Long Term Fellowship (Dec. 1977 - March 1979) and DAAD Short Term Fellowship (July - Sept. 1998) to pursue research in axial flow compressors at University of Technology, Aachen, Germany.
After superannuation from NAL in April 2005, Prof. Nagpurwala joined M.S. Ramaiah School of Advanced Studies, Bangalore in September 2005 as teaching faculty and continues till date.
He has guided over 25 Masters level students. He is a member of various professional societies.
He has published about 65 technical papers in journals and conferences and has authored about 25 NAL internal reports.
