About
Dr. Tamanna Bhuyan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Biology, School of Biological Sciences, at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) and serves as the State President of the Microbiologists Society, India. She holds a B.S. in Biotechnology from North-Eastern Hill University, an M.S. in Biotechnology with a Gold Medal from Amity University, Noida, and a Ph.D. in Nanotechnology from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, where she received the Best Thesis Award.
Her research lies at the interface of biotechnology, nanobiotechnology, microbiology, and biomedical sciences, with particular emphasis on biomaterials, micro- and nanocarriers for drug delivery, cancer theranostics, antimicrobial and antibiofilm applications, biosensors, and value-added biotechnological products. Her current research includes the development of biocompatible micro/nanocarriers and plant-based therapeutic systems, including millet microcapsules for the nanoencapsulation of bioactive compounds from Ashoka for managing dysmenorrhea.
Dr. Bhuyan has authored numerous research articles in international journals and has contributed to books and book chapters in nanomedicine, microfluidics, drug delivery, and sustainable biotechnology. She has also been associated with patented technologies, including a microfluidic point-of-care immunosensor for non-invasive biomarker detection.
Her academic contributions have been recognized through several awards and fellowships, including the National Level Women Scientist Award 2024, GYTI Appreciation 2021, Best Thesis Award in Nanotechnology at IIT Guwahati, Best Poster and Best Oral Presentation Awards, the DST-INSPIRE Fellowship, and the DST-SERB International Travel Support.
Alongside her academic and research pursuits, Dr Bhuyan is actively involved in teaching, scientific workshops, invited lectures, professional activities, and academic collaborations. She is also a trained Hindustani classical singer and has completed a two-year Diploma in Classical Music from the Centre for Creativity, IIT Guwahati.
