I am is presently working as PI in the project ‘Genetic Improvement of Garden Peas’ at ICAR-IIVR, Varanasi. Having more than 7 years of research experience in peas breeding. Developed unique multi-flower/podded lines of garden pea viz, VRPM-501, VRPM-502, VRPM-901-3 and VRPM-901-5. Unique Germplasm registered in Peas (01): Genotype ‘VRPM-901-5 (INGR19077)’ registered as unique genotype bearing 3-5 pods with NBPGR, New Delhi; Unique Germplasm registered in lentil (01): As one of the associated members, also registered one unique material in lentil PMF-1 (INGR20029) bearing up to five flowers per peduncle; A total of 13 Peas germplasm documented with NBPGR, New Delhi (IC0626394, IC0626395, IC0626396, IC0626397, IC0626398, IC0626399, IC0626400, IC0626401 IC0626402; IC632629, IC 632630, IC632631, IC630592); Submitted 10 Pea Entries in AICRP (VC) Trials viz., VRPE-101, VRPE-103, VRPE-105, VRPM-905, VRPE-903, VRP-343, VRPE-111, VRPE-101-5, VRPMS-919, VRP-500 in different varietal evaluation sections; Augmented 31 genotypes of garden peas with special focus on disease resistance. Presently, maintaining more than 700 peas germplasm. For introgression of genes for earliness, multi-flowering, higher pod yield, resistant to powdery mildew, rust and for edible podded type through hybridization more than 250 crosses has been attempted in last two years and currently working with more than 290 advance breeding lines of vegetable peas from F3 to F10. Over the years, screened more than 600 pea germplasm for various traits like heat tolerance, powdery mildew, rust resistance, alternaria leaf blight, pea leaf minor etc. Conducted and compiled report for more than 25 AICRP (VC) trials of garden peas since last five years; I am also responsible for the maintenance breeding of the pea varieties released by ICAR-IIVR, Varanasi & one of the active members of breeder seed monitoring of Pea varieties Kashi Nandini, Kashi Udai, Kashi Samridhi and Kashi Ageti. Research activities in garden peas includes: Development and characterization of multi–podded genetic stock of garden peas, Evaluation & identification of promising lines with respect to various traits (like yield, multi-flowering, powdery mildew & rust resistance, edible podded type, heat tolerance etc.), augmentation, genetic advancement of breeding material, germplasm maintenance and its distribution. In addition to this, Augmented 141 lines of vegetable soybean from National and International organization. Research activities in vegetable soybean includes; Creation of genetic variation through hybridization programme, characterization for horticultural traits, Screening of germplasm for YMV and Spodoptera spp. damage, advancement of generation and maintenance breeding of vegetable soybean germplasm. Currently handing 03 research projects as, 1; Genetic Improvement of Pea (PI); 2: Genetic Improvement of Under Exploited & Future Vegetables (Co-PI), 3: Biotechnological Interventions for Improvement of Selected Vegetable Crops (Co-PI). I have also published 17 papers, among them, 10 is in various legumes papers including 05 in peas, 04 in French bean, 01 in soybean and 01 in lentil. Published more than 35 popular articles/training manual chapters in major and minor legumes.
