About
Presently working as an ICAR Emeritus Scientist after superannuation in September 2024 as Principal Scientist at ICAR-Indian Institute of Vegetable Research, Varanasi. Have more than 38 years working experience in Agricultural Research Service (ARS) which includes 9.5 years in arid zone fruits and 29 years on vegetables. One of the innovators of two water saving devices viz. "Jaltripti" and "Jalshuddhi" for use in arid areas and have immensely contributed in popularization of vegetable varieties developed from ICAR- Indian Institute of Vegetable Research, Varanasi through continuous and sustained production of quality seeds of vegetables.
Completed four in-house projects as Principal Investigator (PI) and one as Co-Principal Investigator. Presently Programme Leader of two in-house mega programmes viz. “Seed Enhancement in Vegetables” and “Integrated Gene Management (in vegetables)”. Looked after National Seed Project on Vegetables and All India Coordinated Research Project on Vegetables as a nodal person in the institute to look after these programmes on behalf of Director. Had been the Centre PI of the AP Cess funded project “Application of MAP (Modified Atmosphere Packaging) in the storability of high value seeds of vegetables” and nodal officer at IIVR for the project “Seed Production in Agricultural Crops & Fisheries i.e. Mega Seed Project”. Other than in-house projects, presently PI of "National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture", “Agri-Business Incubation Unit” and “Zonal Technology Management Unit” (ZTMU) at ICAR-IIVR, Varanasi and have been instrumental in popularizing IIVR vegetable varieties by producing their breeder and TL seeds in large quantities since 1995 and commercialization of vegetable varieties released from IIVR, Varanasi from 2013 by contributing to 78 license agreements with different private sector companies as PI of Agri-Business unit.
Have to my credit 22 varieties including 4 hybrids, 92 Research papers, 103 Research articles, 8 books, 31 Chapters in different books, 8 Technical Bulletins, 15 Training manuals and 4 Extension folders. Have also been instrumental in the publication of 15 Annual Reports of the Institute, 15 AICRP(VC) Annual Reports, 13 AICRP(VC) Proceedings and 22 newsletters of the Institute.
Fellow of Indian Academy of Horticultural Science as well as Indian Society of Vegetable Science and have received Best Research Paper Award for one paper in the journal ‘Seed Research’ and two papers in ‘Vegetable Science’; Fellowship Award from Society for Recent Development in Agriculture, SBPUAS, Meerut and Award for continuous and sustained contribution for the progress of seed science & technology from Indian Society of Seed Technology, IARI, New Delhi.
Contributed actively in corporate life of the institute in different capacities as Chairman PME Cell, Chairman Purchase Committee, Chairman Farm Management Committee, Chairman Project Coordinator’s Cell, Chairman Resource Generation Committee, Chairman Institute Services Unit, Member Works Committee, Member Secretary Institute Research Advisory Committee etc. Have been instrumental in establishment of seed technology lab and seed processing facilities at the Institute.
