About
Prateek Kumar Singh has professional experience spanning research, consulting, and teaching. He completed his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2014 and earned an M.Sc. in Civil Engineering (Water Resources) from the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, India, in 2017, graduating with a CGPA of 9.39/10 and ranking first in his specialization.
In 2017, Prateek joined RMSI Private Limited as a Flood Risk Engineer (Hydraulic and Hydrology Modeler), where he contributed to consulting projects on flood forecasting supported by the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank in Nigeria and India. He later pursued a Ph.D. in Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics at the University of Liverpool, UK, completing it in 2022.
Following his doctorate, Prateek was appointed a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Building Environment and Energy at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in September 2022. In 2024, he was awarded the prestigious Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) grant in the 6th edition of the CEEC and currently serves as an Investigador Júnior at the National Laboratory for Civil Engineering (LNEC), Lisbon, Portugal.
Prateek’s research interests include eco-hydraulics, sediment transport and deposition, flow structures, and stage–discharge and rating curve modeling. His career has resulted in more than 30 scientific and technical publications, including book chapters, peer-reviewed journal papers, conference contributions, and numerous technical reports.
He has received several distinctions, including the Prof. U. C. Kothyari Best M.Tech Thesis Award from the Indian Society of Hydraulics in 2017 and the Best Researcher Award at the International Research Awards on Science, Health, and Engineering (SHEN Awards) in 2022.
