About

Hongliang Li received his Ph.D. degree in Electronics and Information Engineering from Xi'an Jiaotong University, China, in 2005. From 2005 to 2006, he joined the visual signal processing and communication laboratory (VSPC) of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) as a Research Associate. From 2006 to 2008, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the same laboratory in CUHK. He is currently a full Professor in the School of Information and Communication Engineering, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China. His research interests include image and video processing, visual attention, object detection and segmentation, object recognition and parsing, multimedia content analysis, deep learning.

Prof. Li has authored or co-authored more than 160 technical papers in international conferences and journals, such as IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology, IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, etc. His work has been cited over 5800 times with an h-index of 40. He has 30 granted China patents. He is a co-editor of a Springer book titled “Video segmentation and its applications”. He was involved in many professional activities. He is the IEEE Open Journal of Circuits and Systems, and Journal on Visual Communication and Image Representation. He serves as an Area Editor of Signal Processing: Image Communication (Elsevier Science). He served as an Associate Editors for the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology from 2018 to 2021. He received the 2019 and 2020 Best Associate Editor Awards for IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology (TCSVT), 2021 Best Editor Award and 2018 Outstanding Service Award to JVCI and its Community. He served as a General Chair of 2017 IEEE International Symposium on Intelligent Signal Processing and Communication Systems, the Technical Program Chairs of the 2016 IEEE Visual Communications and Image Processing and the 2017 Pacific-Rim Conference on Multimedia, the Local Chair of the 2014 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia & Expo, the Publicity Chair of 2013 the IEEE Visual Communications and Image Processing. He served in program committees and session chairs for many IEEE conferences, e.g., AAAI2022, ISCAS2021, ISCAS2020, ISCAS2019, VCIP2021, and ICME2014.

Prof. Li is now a senior member of IEEE. He is also a member of Visual Signal Processing and Communications technical committee of IEEE Circuits and Systems Society, a member of Multimedia Communication technical committee of IEEE Communications Society, and a member of Multimedia Computing technical committee of IEEE Computer Society. He was the coauthor of the Top 10% Paper Awards in IEEE ICIP 2015 and VCIP 2016, a Best Student Paper Honorable Mention in ACCV 2014. He was granted National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholar in 2015. He was selected as the New Century Excellent Talents in University, Chinese Ministry of Education, China, in 2008, and '100 Talents Project' of UESTC in 2011. In 2014, he was the recipient of the Second Prize of the Natural Science of Ministry of Education China. He is honored as an IEEE CAS Distinguished Lecturer and a CCF Distinguished Speaker in 2020.
