About

Dr Ramesh.S.Ve began his career as an optometrist & clinical researcher in 2001 and has academic, clinical and research experience in the field of optometry, vision science and eye care. He is currently Professor, Department of Optometry, Manipal College of Health Professions, Manipal Academy of Higher Education. He completed his Doctorate (PhD) in 2014 Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, India and Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai. His research focus as part of the doctoral work was estimating 5 year progression of glaucoma, both structural and functional changes evaluated using ophthalmic imaging and perimetry tests as part the Chennai Glaucoma Study conducted at Sankara Nethralaya (Eye Hospital- Centre of Excellence in eye care in India). He has received the Indo-US Public Health Research Post-doctoral Research fellowship-2014 at Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA. Their interdisciplinary research team have received over INR 5.2 crores ($725,826) research grants from national, international and industry funding agency. He has 64 research articles in peer reviewed indexed journals with H Index of 20 and has filed 4 patent.

He was the one of the India Coordinator for ERASMUS Project- Optometry Curriculum for Life long learning through Erasmus (OCULUS). OCULUS is a consortium of optometry educators with the aim to reform optometry education in Israel and India towards European standards, and develop resources for improved education through lifelong learning.

He also has a keen interest towards techno-entrepreneurship and actively supports, is the founding director of VISINT Healthcare Pvt Ltd, incubated at Manipal Universal Technology and Business Incubator and recipient of Biotechnology Ignition Grant. His work on cost effective portable imaging device OcuDA, won the Gold Medal for best innovation at the DST-Lockheed Martin India Innovation Growth Programme-2013 and he is also a nominated mentor for the DST Lockheed Martin India Innovation Growth Program 2015. This team has collaborated with REMMED, Poland in developing Virtual Reality Based Smart Tele Eye Care technology and launching the novel Virtual Reality based technology in Indian market in 2020.

He is member of Optometric Glaucoma Society, USA. He is active member and the steering committee member of Institutional Research Committee, MCHP, MAHE and Mentor, Grant Office, Directorate of Research, MAHE
