About
My research objective as a marine geophysicist is to apply my knowledge and analysis methods to integrate geological and geophysical data sets to advance our understanding of the morphological evolution of different sediments and sediment acoustic models. I use high-resolution seafloor mapping data and sub-bottom profiler data to study seafloor morphological features and sediment properties. I focus specifically on hydrothermal, cold seep, and coastal environments. I attempt to evaluate the sediment characteristic and morphological evolution offshore southwestern Taiwan. I use an integrated approach to investigate gas seepages both on the seafloor and in the sediment beneath the seafloor. To better determine the sediment properties around these seafloor features, I have developed a prototype tool to automatically classify seabed using sub-bottom profiler data. By considering the geo-acoustic properties of surficial sediments, I have extended my understanding of seabed classification. My specialty in underwater acoustics has been refined. Sound propagation model provides insight into the uncertainty of sound reflected from the bottom. Variation of geological features (e.g., canyon) and physical oceanography (e.g., internal waves) causes a large bias affecting the application in marine geology, and an even deeper understanding of this particular subject in order to reduce the bias and use high-accuracy data to compare it with other parts of the world. I have collaborated with peers within and related to my area of expertise, including those in marine geology and geophysics and underwater acoustics fields.
