About

Dr. Salvi belongs to a group of skilled researchers trained in the latest approaches of biological sciences. Dr. Salvi has employed modern molecular biology and biochemistry approaches towards crop improvement. He has received his undergraduate degree from Bangalore university in Biotechnology, and post-graduate degree in Plant Biotechnology and Biochemistry from G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Uttarakhand. He qualified several National level entrance exams (CSIR-NET-JRF, BET-DBT, GATE etc.) and joined National Institute of Plant Genome Research, New Delhi for his doctorate perusal. During his PhD tenure at NIPGR, Dr Salvi has been deeply involved in dissecting the inositol metabolism and raffinose family oligosaccharides (RFO) pathway in chickpea, an important legume crop of Indian subcontinent. He led a comprehensive studied of inositol and RFO metabolism to explore their role in seed development and environmental stresses by deploying various physiological, biochemical and molecular approaches. He has awarded with a prestigious award DST-INSPIRE-Faculty Award-2018 by Government of India and presently he is working as DST-INSPIRE-Faculty at National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute, Mohali and leading the project as Principle Investigator. Here, his lab is deciphering the gene regulatory networks that controls the grain quality and stress tolerance response in rice. His major area of research includes the molecular and functional aspect of seed-specific transcription factor(s) to reveal the cellular pathways that are associated with seed development, maturation and stress response and aim to discover novel target genes/proteins for crop improvement.
