About
Prof. (Dr.) Samir Dev Gupta is served as Director & Academic Head at JUIT, Waknaghat since 25 April 2015; additionally since 02 July 2016 he is also performing the duties of Dean (Academic & Research). He also performed the duties of HoD (ECE) from 01 January 2018 to 30 June 2018. Before joining JUIT, Waknaghat as Director & Academic Head, he was Professor in the Department of ECE at JIIT, Noida. Currently he is Professor ECE, Dean Academic and HoD (CSE & IT)
Prior to joining JIIT, Noida in November 2002, he was Deputy Director at Air Headquarters, R K Puram, New Delhi. During his service at Air Headquarters, he looked after induction of UAV and Portable Laser Designating System into the Indian Air Force. He also planned, coordinated and controlled Avionics Modifications of operational fighter & transport aircraft and helicopters. In addition Aircraft Simulator maintenance was tasked to his Directorate.
Career of Prof Samir Dev Gupta spans over 41 years, which includes both in academic and administrative roles. Commissioned by the President of India, he joined the Indian Air Force on 04 January 1978. He served the Indian Air Force more than twenty four and a half years in various capacities. His diverse operational experience includes maintenance and operation of Surface to Air Missiles, Ground Based Radar System and Mirage 2000 aircraft & its Simulator. He has Commanded 8 GHz Line of Sight Microwave Communication Unit.
His teaching experience spans over 22 years. He has been teaching at UG and PG levels. Institution’s he has taught includes, JIIT, Noida, Institute of Armament Technology (IAT), Pune (now DIAT, Pune, Deemed University), Air Force Technical College (AFTC), Bangalore. During his tenure at IAT, Pune: he was recognized Post Graduate Teacher in Microwave Communication at Pune University.
Prof Samir Dev Gupta pursues research in the field of Microstrip Antennas. He has supervised a scholar for award of Ph.D degree and currently three scholars are pursuing research under his guidance. His research publications are well cited. He is also reviewer of research publications of some of the reputed journals like, IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters, IEEE Access, Microwave and Optical Technology Letters, ACES Journal, Progress in Electromagnetic Research (PIER) Journals, International Journal of Microwave and Optical Technology (IJMOT), International Journal of RF and Microwave Computer Aided Engineering, Journal of Electromagnetic Waves and Applications
He did his BE (Electronics) from UVCE, Bangalore, M.Tech (Electrical Engg.) from IIT, Madras, M.Sc (Defence Studies) from Madras University and Ph.D from JIIT, Noida. Graduate of Defence Services Staff College (DSSC), Wellington, in addition has undergone professional courses at IIT, Kharagpur, Institute of Radio Physics and Electronics, Kolkata, and M/s ELOP. Israel.
During his tenure at JIIT, Noida, he was assigned the role of Head Training & Placement and was tasked to place the first and second batch of students graduating in year 2005 and 2006 respectively in MNC’s. He also performed the duties of Dean of Students with designation of ADOS, Chairman of Proctorial Board. Further, he successfully organized for the Department of ECE first and second international conferences ICSC 2013 and ICSC 2015 respectively.
