About

Joan Marie Kelly is a highly accomplished visual artist, whose creative endeavours serve as a powerful conduit for developing connections between persons and communities. 2005-2024, Kelly served a distinguished faculty member at the Nanyang Technological University, School of Art Design and Media in Singapore. Presently she serves as Professor of Practice at Woxsen University School of Arts and Design. In the 1990’s Joan Marie began an art studio for disabled adults in the USA. She continues this thread in Asia through a social art practice most recently focusing on addressing collective trauma due to environmental disaster through creative practices. She is an active member of Mediators Beyond Borders International (MBBI) in which she addressed this subject through speaking events at COP28 in Dubai 2023 and COP29 in Azerbaijan 2024.

In 2019, Kelly released her seminal publication, "Invisible Personas," a collection of 52 thought-provoking artworks accompanied by four insightful essays authored by scholars who have closely collaborated with her. With a global exhibition record, Kelly participated in group exhibitions all around the world including the 2019 Salon du Beaux Arts held at the Carrousel du Louvre Museum. Her solo exhibitions have been hosted in venues in New York City, Colombo Sri Lanka, Singapore, Fez Morocco, Smith College USA, New Delhi and Kolkata. Notably, Kelly has also contributed to numerous significant biennale events, leaving her artistic mark in prominent locations such as Beijing, Dhaka, Izmir, Korea, and Casablanca.
