Dr Sandeep Pandey, MRSC, is a Royal Society Newton International Fellow at the University of Strathclyde, United Kingdom, and an innovation-driven materials scientist specializing in graphene, advanced carbon nanomaterials, perovskite photovoltaics, energy storage, waste upcycling, and sustainable nanotechnology. His research focuses on transforming carbon-rich waste streams into high-value functional materials and developing next-generation technologies for clean energy generation, harvesting, and storage. Dr Pandey completed his PhD in Chemistry at Kumaun University, India, where his research focused on the synthesis and modification of carbon nanomaterials for advanced solar energy conversion and energy storage applications. Over the past decade, he has established an international research career spanning India, South Korea, and the United Kingdom, developing expertise in graphene synthesis, carbon nanomaterials, perovskite solar cells, single-crystal perovskites, supercapacitors, photosupercapacitors, electrochemistry, catalysis, and sustainable materials engineering.
A major focus of his research has been the development of scalable, cost-effective, and environmentally sustainable technologies for converting waste plastics, paper waste, agricultural residues, cotton waste, and other carbon-rich feedstocks into graphene and advanced carbon nanomaterials. His pioneering contributions have helped establish practical pathways for waste valorisation, carbon circularity, and resource-efficient manufacturing. Dr Pandey is also an accomplished inventor with an extensive intellectual property portfolio comprising more than 10 granted patents across India and Australia, along with several additional patent applications in advanced materials, graphene manufacturing, energy devices, environmental remediation, and functional nanocomposites. His patented technologies include innovative processes for converting waste plastics into high-quality graphene nanosheets, graphene nanofibres, porous graphene nanostructures, graphene-based nanocomposites, and carbon nanomaterials derived from paper waste and biomass. Several of these technologies have successfully progressed beyond laboratory development and have been transferred to industry through the National Research Development Corporation (NRDC), facilitating commercial-scale production and real-world deployment of sustainable graphene technologies. His innovations have contributed to:

This work aims to integrate solar energy harvesting and energy storage into a single device platform, addressing critical challenges in sustainable energy technologies and net-zero systems.

His research on converting waste plastics into graphene for energy applications has attracted significant international attention and has become a notable example of how nanotechnology and circular economy principles can work together to address global challenges in waste management, clean energy, and sustainability.
Beyond academia, Dr Pandey is passionate about transforming scientific discoveries into commercially viable technologies, fostering industry-academia partnerships, mentoring the next generation of researchers, and supporting the transition towards a sustainable, net-zero future.
