Dr. Ravi Kant Jain is currently working as a Senior Principal Scientist at the CSIR–Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-CMERI), Durgapur, under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. He previously served as Head of ESD (Institute) at CSIR-CMERI from April 2021 to March 2023 and has also held various positions in the institute, including Principal Scientist, Senior Scientist, and Scientist C. He earned his B.E. degree from Barkatullah University, Bhopal, in 1999, M.Tech. from MANIT Bhopal in 2001, and Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur in 2013. Recognized among the Top 2% Scientists in the world, Dr. Jain began his career as a Senior Research Fellow at DRDO’s Research & Development Establishment (Engineers), Pune, Maharashtra, where he worked from 2001 to 2004.
Over the years, Dr. Jain has been the recipient of numerous prestigious awards, including the Eminent Engineers Award (2017), Er. M.P. Baya National Award (2016), Best Paper Award (2021) from the Institution of Engineers (India), and the Outstanding Scientist Award (2021) from the VD Good Professional Association. He was also honored with the IEI Young Engineer Award in Mechanical Engineering (2011), Best Paper Award (2025) at the IEEE I2E3 Conference, NIT Uttarakhand, Best Paper Award (2022) at the EBT Conference, University of Belgrade, Serbia, Best Paper Award at the ACEEE International Conference (2010), and the MSC Software India User Event (2013). Additionally, he was invited as the Guest of Honor by National Instruments (NI) India Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore, in 2010.
In parallel with his research contributions, Dr. Jain serves as a faculty member at the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR), Ghaziabad, and is a Fellow of The Institution of Engineers (India). He is also an editorial board member of several reputed international journals, including the International Journal of Robotics and Automation Engineering (USA), Journal of Material Science and Technology Research (France), Journal of Signal and Information Processing (China), and the International Journal of Applied Chemistry and Materials Science (Taiwan). His professional service extends to various academic and organizational roles such as National Advisory Committee Member for the 33rd National Convention of Mechanical Engineers (2017) at IEI, Udaipur; Technical Committee Member for Advances in Robotics (AIR), Robotics Society Conference (2015, 2017, and 2019); Scientific Committee Member for the E-Business Technologies (EBT) Conference, University of Belgrade, Serbia (2022); and Organizing Committee Member for events like Robo-Expo 2016 and the National Workshop on IoT for Environments (2020) at CSIR-CMERI.
Dr. Jain has successfully led several high-impact research projects funded by CSIR, DST, and other agencies. His research findings have been widely published in leading SCI journals, including Scientific Reports (Springer Nature), Robotics and Autonomous Systems (Elsevier), Journal of Intelligent and Robotic Systems, and Microsystem Technologies (Springer). He has also contributed to book chapters, conference proceedings, and institutional newsletters, while actively mentoring students and young researchers.
His research interests various fields such as Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics, mechatronics, industrial automation, IPMC-based soft robots, compliant mechanisms, and micro-robotics.
