About

Evi Aryati Arbay is a government communication scholar, public information governance specialist, and ethnographer with more than two decades of experience in Indonesia’s public sector. Her interdisciplinary scholarship explores how strategic communication, transparency, leadership, and governance shape public trust, institutional resilience, and democratic accountability. Her research interests include political and crisis communication, public policy, leadership communication, cultural symbolism, and institutional transformation.

A distinctive dimension of her work is her ethnographic research on Papua and Indigenous communities, focusing on cultural resilience, Indigenous knowledge, identity, leadership, and local wisdom. She is the author of the cultural documentation trilogy DANI, BADUY, and BIAK, and her latest book explores the biography and pastoral leadership of Aloysius Murwito OFM, Bishop of Asmat, examining leadership, faith, culture, and human resilience in one of the world’s most geographically and pastorally challenging regions.

Her scholarship is driven by a commitment to connect communication, culture, leadership, and governance to real-world social transformation. Through research, teaching, ethnographic documentation, and international collaboration, she seeks to advance knowledge while contributing to more trusted, resilient, inclusive, and accountable institutions.
