Dr Debmalya Sanyal, currently a Professor at the Department of Endocrinology, KPC Medical College , Kolkata, India. He is currently a Conjoint Professor, School of Medicine & Public Health, University of Newcastle, Australia. He is also a faculty of Diabetes & Endocrine Certificate Course of University of Newcastle, Australia and KPC Medical College, Kolkata. Dr Debmalya Sanyal has been in clinical practice in endocrinology from August 2007. He is a Senior Visiting Consultant Endocrinologist in the Department of Endocrinology, NH RTIICS (Narayana Health-Rabindranath Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences), a tertiary care hospital having multispeciatility services. He is also a Visiting Consultant in Endocrinology in GD Hospital and Diabetes Institute (GDDI) from February 2009.
Dr Debmalya Sanyal graduated (MBBS) with honours from Calcutta University in 1997 and completed DTM&H (Postgraduate Diploma in Tropical Medicine) from School of Tropical Medicine, Calcutta University, followed by postgraduate degree ( MD) in Internal Medicine from Utkal University. He completed a three-years residency and also received doctoral degree (DM) in Endocrinology from West Bengal University of Health Sciences in 2007. He obtained MRCPI from Royal College of Physicians of Ireland in 2010. He received the FACE( Fellow, American College of Endocrinology) distinction in 2015. He also received his Specialty Certificate in Endocrinology & Diabetes (SCE) from Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom.
He holds an appointment in a department (division/section) of Endocrinology in a Medical Council of India –MCI accredited medical college (K P C Medical College) with an academic rank of Professor from 01/02/2016. On 6/12/ 2010 he joined as Assistant Professor of Endocrinology in K P C Medical College (recognised by Medical Council of India –MCI), Kolkata, under West Bengal University of Health Sciences. On 1/02/2013 was promoted as Associate Professor in Department of Endocrinology, subsequently promoted to Professor from 01/02/2016.

He is also a faculty of Integrated Diabetes & Endocrine Certificate Course of University of Newcastle, Australia & KPC Medical College, Kolkata. Conceptualising and developing curriculum , course & examination conduction from 2016 – till date. Regular theory classes on endocrine and diabetes for the Integrated Diabetes and Endocrine Certificate Course. Innovation and upgradation of the course and its scientific content. Further introduction of advanced courses is also being worked out. Appointed as Conjoint Professor, School of Medicine and Public Health,University of Newcastle, Australia from 4/06/2020- till date. He is a regular national faculty of PHFI ( Public Health Foundation of India) diabetes and endocrine courses. He was a faculty of national RSSDI diabetes certificate course.

He is actively involved in academic as well as clinical practice in the field of Endocrinology. He is also actively involved in endocrine research and has more than 84 publications in national and international journals. He regularly presents his research papers at international and national endocrine related conference. His area of research includes various aspects of diabetes including type 1 and type 2, FCPD, Post Transplant Diabetes Mellitus, Primary Hyperaldosteronism, Transgender Endocrinology, Thyroid disorders, Diabetes and chronic kidney disease, fatty liver, GLP-1 therapy, insulin and renal impairment, pregnancy in diabetes. He has been involved in a number of International clinical trials in the field of endocrinology. He also has quite a few publications in these areas. His ongoing research is focused on type 1 diabetes, pancreatic diabetes, diabetes in young, diabetes and CKD, epidemiology and genetic aspects of diabetes and renal transplant, pharmacotherapy in diabetes. He is also doing active research in thyroid diseseases, endocrine hypertension like primary hyperaldosteronism and gender identity disorders. He has been DNB (doctoral) thesis co-guide in Post Transplant Diabetes or NODAT. He has published the first original articles from India on transgender endocrinology and has been actively involved in Indian national guidelines on transgender health. He has also presented papers on Primary Hyperaldosteronism.
He is also a faculty in different endocrine related meetings at regional, national and international level. He has presented his research papers at international conference meetings like ENDO and AACE in USA, RSSDI and ESICON in India. was selected for travel grants for paper presentation in AACE. He received Etzwiler International Scholar 2019. He received the Best Paper Presentation in Eastern Zone Endocrine Conference . He was awarded Indian Medical Association Dr Deepak Banerjee Award for best paper published in Journal of Indian Medical Association in 2009 and 2019.
