About

Vishal Kumar is a Senior Research Scientist in the Department of Chemistry at Simon Fraser University (SFU), Canada. His research focuses on electrode materials for water electrolysis, electrocatalysis, and sustainable energy technologies. He is currently investigating gas bubble nucleation, growth, and transport dynamics on nickel-based electrodes and their impact on electrochemical performance. His work also includes the development of high-temperature glass and ceramic sealants for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), with particular emphasis on sealant interactions with interconnect steels and yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) electrolytes at SOFC operating temperatures. He has extensive expertise in TEM, XRD, Raman spectroscopy, XPS, and electrochemical characterization for understanding material structure, surface chemistry, degradation mechanisms, and long-term performance in energy conversion systems.
