About

Dr. S. Nagarajan has been serving as the Principal of Tagore Engineering College, Chennai, since 15th December 2025. Prior to this assignment, he served as the Associate Director & principal of Solamalai College of Engineering from December 2022 onwards. Before joining Solamalai College of Engineering, he held the position of Principal at Surendra Institute of Engineering and Technology, Siliguri, Darjeeling, West Bengal, for a period of three years.
Earlier in his academic career, Dr. Nagarajan served as Professor and Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Jerusalem College of Engineering, Chennai. With over 25 years of rich teaching, research, administrative, and academic experience across reputed engineering institutions, he has established himself as a distinguished academic leader and administrator. He obtained his Ph.D. from Anna University in the year 2014.
A committed academician, researcher, and visionary administrator, Dr. Nagarajan has consistently demonstrated excellence in institutional leadership, faculty development, and academic administration. For more than a decade, he successfully served as Professor and Head of the Department, where his leadership and strategic planning significantly contributed to academic quality enhancement and effective institutional management. He also served as Professor – Placement and Training and Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee, playing a vital role in student development, campus administration, and institutional discipline.
Known for his excellent interpersonal, ambassadorial, and diplomatic skills, Dr. Nagarajan has contributed immensely to the growth and transformation of the institutions he has served. His academic leadership has been instrumental in strengthening institutional quality systems, promoting collaborative learning environments, and achieving major academic milestones.
Dr. Nagarajan has played a key role in implementing academic strategies aligned with institutional and university objectives. His initiatives have enhanced faculty coordination, student engagement, research culture, and interdisciplinary collaboration across departments. Under his leadership, institutions successfully achieved prestigious accreditations and recognitions including NBA Accreditation, NAAC Accreditation, and Autonomous Status.
Notably, during his tenure at Solamalai College of Engineering, the institution secured NAAC Accreditation with an impressive “A” Grade and CGPA of 3.21/4.00. The college was also granted Autonomous Status for a period of ten years from the academic year 2024 onwards. Furthermore, under his guidance, the institution successfully secured AICTE IDEA Lab funding for establishing advanced innovation and product development laboratories.
Dr. Nagarajan is a recognized Research Supervisor for M.S. and Ph.D. programmes under Anna University. His areas of research interest include Electrical Machines and Drives, Power Electronics, Renewable Energy Systems, and Power Systems Engineering. He is currently guiding three research scholars and has successfully supervised more than 50 undergraduate projects and 15 postgraduate research projects.
His dedication towards teaching and academic excellence has earned him several recognitions and awards. He received the “Best Outstanding Teacher Award” from Jerusalem College of Engineering in the years 2002 and 2018. He was also honoured with a similar award by the Pearl Foundation in 2016.
Dr. Nagarajan is a Fellow Member of The Institution of Engineers (India) and a Life Member of The Institution of Engineering and Technology, Indian Society for Technical Education, and IEAE. He has actively organized numerous Faculty Development and Training Programmes sponsored by Anna University and ISTE.
An accomplished researcher and scholar, Dr. Nagarajan has published more than 54 research papers in reputed international journals and conferences, reflecting his continuous commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and research contributions in the field of engineering and technology.
