About

I am an Associate Professor at the Natural and Medical Sciences Research Center (NMSRC), University of Nizwa, Oman, where I lead the Sustainable Packaging Laboratory and coordinate its academic and research activities. My academic background combines pharmaceutical sciences and packaging technology, with a PhD in Pharmaceutical Technology specializing in biopolymers from Jadavpur University, Kolkata (2015). This foundation has enabled me to develop a distinctive interdisciplinary expertise at the intersection of pharmaceutical technology, biopolymer science, materials science and sustainable packaging.
My current research focuses on the development, characterization and application of biopolymer-based packaging materials, particularly films, coatings and composite materials for sustainable food, pharmaceutical and healthcare packaging. My research encompasses edible, multilayer, multifunctional, UV-protective, superhydrophobic, intelligent and nano-engineered films and coatings designed to improve product protection, quality and shelf life. I investigate their thermal, structural, chemical, optical, mechanical, surface, biodegradability and biological properties using advanced analytical and material-characterization techniques. My group also studies the release and migration kinetics of natural and synthetic additives from packaging materials, including diffusion, partition and convection phenomena, supported by mathematical modelling of mass-transfer processes.
Our research further integrates antimicrobial and antioxidant functionality, active packaging, product–packaging interactions and shelf-life assessment. We evaluate the effects of packaging materials on the physical, chemical, sensory and nutritional properties of packaged products, with the objective of developing sustainable materials that provide both environmental benefits and improved packaging performance. With 17 years of experience in teaching, research and postgraduate supervision, I have worked extensively in multidisciplinary environments and have taught subjects including polymer science, packaging microbiology, biotechnology and pharmaceutical sciences. My combined expertise in pharmaceutical technology, biopolymers and sustainable packaging provides a strong platform for developing next-generation packaging technologies, particularly for pharmaceutical, medical and food applications.
