About

Dr. Kardam is a postdoctoral research scholar at the University of Tennessee, specializing in the biodegradation of packaging waste. With a strong background in food packaging, biowaste utilization, and single-use plastic replacement, their research focuses on high-barrier coatings, active packaging, and circular economy-driven solutions.

Currently, Dr. Kardam is working on the end-of-life solutions for packaging waste, as well as the preparation and scalability of cellulose-based coatings for high-barrier packaging, and converting agricultural and wood industry waste into molded products as sustainable alternatives to plastics. Additionally, they are exploring cold plasma-assisted methodologies for coating and antimicrobial packaging development. Their work also involves packaging design, performance evaluation, and simulation using Arden Impact software and CAD Table.

Their previous research experience spans vapor-phase antimicrobial packaging, nano-encapsulation, natural antimicrobials, ethylene scavenging films and papers, lignocellulose waste valorization, nano-cellulose applications, surface modifications, biochar-based materials, and additive manufacturing (FDM and binder jet 3D printing).

Committed to advancing sustainable packaging solutions, Dr. Kardam actively contributes to the scientific community as a reviewer for SCI journals, supporting research that drives innovation in the field.
