About

A plant virologist and molecular biologist with a Ph.D. in Molecular Virology and an M.Sc. in Biochemistry. Research interests focus on plant–virus–host–vector interactions, molecular diagnostics, disease resistance, and translational plant biotechnology. Doctoral research investigated begomovirus–betasatellite pathogenesis, including the role of non-coding regions in viral replication and symptom development, and contributed to the characterization of βV1 and βC1-associated disease mechanisms. Postdoctoral research at UC Davis in collaboration with USDA-ARS has involved grapevine, walnut, prune, and model plant systems, with emphasis on pathogen diagnostics, virus epidemiology, vector biology, and host resistance. Technical expertise includes qPCR, digital PCR, RNA-seq, cloning, VIGS, protein interaction assays, and plant-based expression platforms. The broader research goal is to advance molecular understanding of plant disease and translate it into practical tools for crop health and disease management
