About
I am Dr. Vijayakumar Rajendran, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals, Chennai. Prior to joining this faculty, I advanced my research career as a Research Associate at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, and as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Madras. I earned my Doctorate in Biochemistry from North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU).
As a protein scientist and computational biophysicist, my expertise spans the continuum of molecular and structural biology including gene cloning, protein expression, purification, and X-ray crystallography, alongside advanced computer-aided drug discovery.
My primary research focuses on the structural and functional characterization of critical protein targets from major human pathogens, including Helicobacter pylori and prominent oral microflora, to drive structure-based drug discovery. By bridging experimental biochemistry with cutting-edge computational modeling, my work aims to unravel complex molecular mechanisms, explore the link between oral microbiomes and systemic health, and design novel therapeutics targeting infectious, oral, and metabolic diseases.
