About
My career vision is to share my knowledge, experience and passion in the field of space syntax and economic aspects of spatial configuration through research for creating an inclusive approach towards architectural design and to extend the same to industry for application. After my graduation in Architecture, I worked in industry in design, monitoring and most specifically in coordination of architectural projects. From my initial work experience, I felt the urge to focus on behavioural aspects and did post-graduation in business management and in economics. As I majored in marketing, I was exposed to survey techniques and analysis, behavioural aspects and optimization techniques. During my tenure of teaching in management sciences, I also had the opportunity of working on those areas. My research interest developed during my experience in retail projects. I wanted to integrate the knowledge of behavioural aspects and economic consequences in architectural design. From then onwards, I started teaching in a school of Architecture.
In my research I looked at the interface between architectural design and tenanting decision making in planned shopping malls. Drawing upon the work of Hiller and others in Space Syntax theory and at bid rent analysis from the retail management side, I have designed a model with wide applicability in the design of Greenfield shopping malls and in the redesign of existing ones. My research integrates retail research wisdom and the knowledge of spatial configuration to illustrate the efficacy of space design as a strategic decision making tool. The conceptual framework that has been proposed provides a direction for allocating stores for profit maximization within a given spatial arrangement and it also lends direction to appropriate alteration/modification decisions with regard to spatial design. The framework can also be used as an evaluation tool for selecting of the most suitable spatial design for profit maximization from among alternatives.
